Master Gichin Funakoshi who is known as the founder of Shotokan Karate is the one who introduced Karate from Okinawa to mainland Japan and contributed to spread Karate throughout Japan. He also changed the name of Karate from Karate-Jutsu “ Chinese hands technique” into Karate-Do “ Way of empty hands”.
Shigeru Egami is one of immediate disciples of Master Gichin Funakoshi and contributed to the reconstruction of Shotokan in Shibaura which had been destroyed by the fire during the world war II, and was appointed as the first President of Shotokan.
Shigeru Egami developed his unique Karate by incorporating Shin-Ei-Tai-Do which he studied from Master Noriaki Inoue into Karate-do of Master Gichin Funakoshi.
Although Shigeru Egami passed away 35 years ago, his spirit is still living among Karate practitioners and martial artists in many countries who are exploring Shigeru Egami’s Principles.
